History of LadyRider, Inc

Based in Northern Virginia, this riding club was started in 1987 by Lillian Wills Shores and Pat Turner, when they were looking for other women with whom to ride motorcycles. At one time, as the number of women pursuing their desire to begin motorcycling grew, the Club had a roster of more than forty members.  Many of our members have since left the club to become more involved with larger, more active clubs and we are, once again, a small club with some wonderful, dedicated members.

LadyRider, Inc.'s primary goal was to provide support for female riders. Pat, a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) instructor, and Wills, an MSF graduate, recognized that many women who completed the MSF course did not pursue riding. They felt that these women needed encouragement beyond the initiation process. After establishing its major goal, the Club reached out into areas of rider education and the pure joy of motorcycle riding in a group.  Wills and Pat have since left the Club (moving out of the area), yet it still boasts two MSF instructors as members.

This is a great club for meeting women who enjoy getting together, whether it be for dinner or a motorcycle ride.

Who We Are

The members of LadyRider, Inc. are female motorcyclists of various ages with diverse backgrounds and experience.  We welcome riders of all types of motorcycles.  (Currently, our members are riding BMWs, Harleys, Hondas, Kawasakis, Suzukis, Victorys and Yamahas).  Some of our members have been riding for many years, while others are fairly new to the sport.

What We Do

We meet, we eat, and we ride. LadyRider, Inc members get together the second Monday of each month for dinner at a local restaurant, and spend the time catching up with each other, attending to Club business, and planning the monthly group rides (usually the fourth Saturday or Sunday of each month, April through October).  We also have a Yahoo! Groups site where we can post messages, save pictures, and find people with whom to go riding on the spur of the moment.

We don't have a need for speed, but we are not old ladies, either.  Our rides are conducted with safety in mind, and no alcohol or drugs are tolerated.
